Opening Night & June 2016 SeasonMarch 10, 2016
Ballet & Brass
Our third Washington season featuring DC’s popular street band, Brass Connection, playing live
Three world premieres by three choreographers:
- New hip-hop ballet by DC’s amazing hip-hop artist, Victor Adebusola with Brass Connection
- New work by acclaimed young New York choreographer, Jennifer Archibald, with Brass Connection
- New work by our award-winning Artistic Director, Diane Coburn Bruning to a driving score by Bryce Dessner (of the National rock band) with our string quartet
Our popular Structured Improvisation returns for new in-the-moment surprises at each performance as well as Flying Cloud Cotillion, Diane’s rousing trio in which the men literaly throw a woman flying through air.
Our performances feature seven outstanding dancers with our string quartet and Brass Connection playing live onstage.
Chamber Dance Project breaks creative and conceptual bounds with work of sweeping athleticism, arresting emotional shifts, edgy urban moves, and a power that lingers long after the curtain. Our Saturday matinee includes a post-performance workshop for children joining artists to try some dancing onstage after the show.
